The Florida A&M University State of the Black Student Summit is set to make history in Tallahassee. The Summit is bringing together a diverse compilation of today’s top leaders from around the nation in business, academia, media, politics and education to discuss major issues affecting America’s students domestically and globally. This event is scheduled for Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Al Lawson Gymnasium.

The goals of the Student Summit are to challenge students to think critically about national and global issues, raise awareness about issues that minority communities face, promote dialogue and exchange with our generation’s great minds, encourage entrepreneurial ideas, and strengthen the trust between politics and young adults. 

The keynote speaker is John Legend, singer-songwriter and nine-time grammy award winner.  John Legend is also the founder of the "Show Me" Campaign. The mission of the Show Me Campaign is to break the cycle of poverty using solutions that have been proven to improve people’s lives and to give them the opportunities to survive, thrive and succeed.

Other panelists include Omar Tyree, Carmen Wong Ulrich, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Dr. Jaquelyn Del Rosario, and Eve Wright.

THE MAIN EVENT will feature a panel discussion and interactive discussion with the audience.

FAMU’s Student Government Association is hosting the event.

General admission is $10, and free to FAMU, Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College students with a valid student ID.
